A Chance Encounter or a Divine Encounter?

Anna led us at Genesis Church to sign up as volunteers at the Airdrie Festival of Lights. We manned the fire pits 2 Tuesdays in a row.

It was so much fun. We had the best job as volunteers. We competed with one another to see who could build the biggest fire. Mark and Anna brought Mike, their friend with them and he did a great job also.

An amazing thing happened to me, Rob on the second night. A couple of bus loads of Chinese people came from Calgary to see the Lights. An elderly lady walked straight up to me and introduced me to her companion Hunter. She explained that he arrived from China one month before and was looking for work. He said that he was a geologist. I thought to myself what could God be up to? He must have a plan for this man because why would this lady come directly to me with Hunter? I gave him my card and asked him to email me

I connected him to my friend Paul Johnson, pastor of Roots, a church for young Chinese adults in Calgary. Hunter came to church and Paul began to engage him with the truths of the Gospel via email. Yesterday I got a call from Cesar Parra. He was leading a young adult's retreat for Roots. A young lady named Xiao took a chance and invited Hunter to the retreat. Cesar put me on speaker phone in the midst of his Gospel presentation and shared with me in front of everyone that Hunter had received Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Was it a chance encounter at the Airdrie Festival of Lights? I don't think so. Henry Blackaby points out that God is always at work around us. He invites us to become involved in His work and we come to know God by experience as we obey Him and He accomplishes His work through us.

I look forward to what God will do in Hunter's life and in all our lives as we pursue a personal love relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ.

Hockey Night in Airdrie

Last night we held the winter classic, Hockey Night in Airdrie. The boys got together to play hockey on the pond in Morningside. Tim got a neighbor to let us plug in a huge light that Jim brought so we could see what we were doing (sort of).

The first hour was spent cleaning the ice. Then we threw our sticks on the middle and Rich split up the players. It was a fast, action packed game from the start. Tim, Rob and Josh led the charge with Mark in net. They faced Jim, Isaac, Alex and Rich. The puck was flying, blades were flashing and men were battling it out.
Then the ice starting getting chewed up and the game changed from trying to score a goal to trying to stand up. If only we had a camera we might have qualified for funniest home videos. Isaac and Rob flying through the air, Mark blinded by the light couldn't see the puck, guys lying all around the rink and Jim with his frozen mustache. All in all it was a great match.

Only a few injuries, Rich taking one for the team on the shin and the rest of us with frostbite on the toes. Can't wait for next year!

Savannah Shares Jesus

Our church is made up of young families that have children who love the Lord. Take for instance Savannah. She loves to share Jesus during the Christmas season because she feels that every young person needs a relationship with God in order to a life with purpose and meaning.

Celebrating Summer in winter

Jim and Heather and Gracie were blessed on December 13th when God brought Summer into this world. Here is a portion of Jim's news release: "Summer Constance Bush was born at 12:08am on the 13th at the end of our driveway. She is beautiful just like mommy and big sister..." Thank you God for keeping mommy and baby safe. Here is a picture of Rebeccah and Leigh with Summer a few days after her birth.

Youth Night Out

On our first youth night Mark and Anna took me, my sister and two of my friends, Erin and Bryce to Battle Field Live (laser tagging) at CrossIron Mills. It was super fun and we met and played with another family, three boys and their dad while we were there.

The first round we split into two groups. My group was Mark, Anna, Bryce, Erin, Rebeccah and I. The other group was the three boys and their dad. We rolled around on the floor, ducked down and slid to avoid being shot but they whipped us because we had never played before.  We shot our team mates a lot and the next day we had bruises all over.

We had a meal at Boston Pizza afterwards and everyone in the restaurant was staring at me because I had war paint on my face.
