Queen Savannah!

On June 15th, 2012 Canada got a new queen, Queen Savannah. Ok so I didnt say that she was the Queen of Canada, just that she was a new queen in Canada. Our daughter was crowned Pete Knight Rodeo Queen at the Pete Knight Rodeo in Crossfield, Alberta on June 15th.

She competed for a few months with 2 other girls for the title. The competition included a written test on her knowledge of horses and of the Pete Knight Rodeo, an interview with the Rodeo Board, a riding test on her horse Hank and public speaking at the senior's lodge in Crossfield.

Since winning the title she has participated in quite a few parades and events representing the town of Crossfield. If your in this  neck of the woods keep an eye out for her. She's the one with the crown on her cowboy hat, the huge belt buckle and the ear to ear smile!!

Thank You God for this amazing opportunity for Savannah and our family. Thanks to the Marstons for their help and support especially Emily. Thanks to Lionel for lending us Hank and for all the tips and lessons and driving Hank everywhere. Thanks to Bev and Rita for organizing and chaperoning?? the girls.

God is in Control!!!

Yesterday I was reminded once more that God is in control of everything. He is watching over us and we don't have to worry about anything but just continue to trust and obey Him.

We were on our way to Crossfield for Savannah's first competition as she tries for the Crossfield Rodeo Queen. She was scheduled to take part in a public speaking competition at the Rocky View Lodge. Savannah, Breanna and Erika were each to speak for 5 minutes to a room full of seniors on the topic of "Who I want to be when I grow up." But on our way there. driving down the Deerfoot we actually ran out of gas!! Savannah was freaking. She was going to miss the event. I told her to calm down and not worry. She had asked me earlier to pray that we would make it on time and I did. We started walking toward the off ramp. I called Bev, the chair of the Rodeo Royalty Committee and told her our situation.

About 15 minutes later, Rita, another committee member drove up beside us and asked if we wanted a ride! She was coming from work in Airdrie and was on her way to the competition and Bev had told her to watch out for us. So we got there in plenty of time and Savannah and the other girls did a great job.

I told the manager of the Rocky View Lodge (George) my situation and he was kind enough to wait until the end of the speeches to drive me to the van with a can full of gas. Turns out that George is a Christian and we had a great conversation about how God is in control of everything and all we need to do is listen and obey. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble."

Rob's Retirement Party a Great Success

I chose to stop driving a school bus this year in order to make more time for our daughters. I wanted to thank the kids and build a bridge with them and their families for future events by hosting a retirement party. It was so much fun! We had a fingerblaster party in our meeting space at Genesis Place. There were about 40 people there. Adults and kids alike took part and had a blast - a finger blast :).

Emily and Eric are moving to BC in mid May. Last June I (Rob) told Emily that if she came to the Kids Camp on her birthday that she could squish a piece of cake in my face. She came and she did! To celebrate her moving I brought a cake and she squished another piece in my face! I bet she won't forget Genesis Church.

Fun Times at Youth

What do you get when you mix 2 youth groups, a winter storm and a birthday celebration (Becca 13)? Lots of laughter and fun! Last Thursday a bunch of us got together to clean up a yard then back to our house for a BBQ, a birthday celebration for Becca (13) and a presentation about Compassion Canada by our friend Lauren.
Genesis youth have been joining up with the Center Street Airdrie Regional Campus (ARC) youth for the last month. Two of the 3 kids in the Genesis youth group (my daughters!) were bored with their youth group and they thought their youth leader was kind of lame (me - Rob!) so their dad (Me!) decided it was time for a change. So Genesis Youth is now part of ARC youth on Thursday evenings, led by Grover Bradford. Grover is an awesome leader and a great friend. I would encourage anyone with youth to check out this youth group.

Fun family time

The Lion of Judah was a hit with the kids and the adults as part of our first Easter Family Celebration this afternoon. We showed the newly released animated movie on the big screen in the Rotary Room at Genesis Place.

Savannah and Rebeccah served fresh popcorn made on Smitty's fancy popcorn machine.

The kids listened intently while pastor Rob shared the Easter story with them using resurrection eggs.

They enjoyed popcorn, juice and got a treat bag to bring home.
